Summer is right around the corner and Coachella season is finally here! To keep your skin safe this summer, it’s never a bad idea to opt in for a spray tan and skip the tanning booths.
Exfoliate Before You Go
Make sure you scrub head to toe before your spray tan appointment. It’s super important that you slough off all of your head skin ahead of time to ensure your tan lasts as long as possible. We love dry brushing on a daily basis before hopping in the shower (make sure you take a break once you’ve gotten your tan!) A great dry brush that we like is the Mio Body Brush. The bristles are firm and great for exfoliating, but don’t scratch up your skin. If you’re looking for a quick and easy scrub that doesn’t break the bank, The Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub in Tropical Mango does the trick and it’s only $5.99! Our personal favorite exfoliators right now are the Coco Rose Body Polish by Herbivore Botanicals and Jo Malone London Geranium & Walnut Body Scrub.
Cheap Spray Tans Are Not Always The Best Option
Booths are cheap and great. However, if you’re looking for a flawless spray tan that lasts all week long, we would recommend going in for an airbrush spray tan done my a technician. Make sure you read reviews and find a salon that other people have great things to say about. By having an airbrush spray tan done, you will be able to customize your shade better for your particular skin tone and will leave splotch and line free!
Prep Ahead of Time
Make sure to shave your legs or do your wax ahead of time. Shaving will remove your tan as you strip away layers of skin. Make sure to also wash off all of your lotion, oils, and deodorant ahead of time. You don’t want to have spots that you aren’t tan because you have product on your skin. Also — chemical reactions are a thing! You don’t want your spray tan to interact with your beauty products during the process and leave you looking funny colors.
Moisturize With An Oil-Free Moisturizer
Oil-free moisturizers will help prolong your tan without stripping away your tanning solution. We are in love with moisturizers like First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration and Eminence Organic Skincare. Honey Dew Body Lotion that work well for very sensitive skin.
Skip Soaking, Turn The Heat Down
Try not to soak after you’ve gotten your spray tan. Using very hot water and taking baths or sitting in the jacuzzi will make your tan fade more quickly. That also goes for soaking in pools filled with tons of chlorine! Once you’re ready to see the color fade away, go ahead and hop in.
